About Us

In ancient times, as far back as I can recall, at the end of the 19th century, my maternal grandfathers ancerstors cared for bees in this very place. They lived in the village of Ȍmār, nestled in a small mountain grove, thucket, surrounded by meadows, 800 meters above the sea, today within the territory of the city of Novi Vinodolski, without a single permanent resident.

Rural folks, woodcutters, and proud mountaineers lived there - "Gornji ljudi" (People from Above), as they were called by the "Poljari", individuals settled in the municipal headquarters, Ledenice.

They inhabited a vast area of mountain pastures and dense forests along the borders of Primorje, Kapela, and Gorski Kotar regions. Listening to stories about them since childhood, I created my own Arcadia in my imagination - a land of abundance and unspoiled, pre-modern life, where natural forces always surpass human schemes.

The ancestors managed the forest, burned limestone, produced coal, grazed cattle, and kept bees. Beekeeping was primitive, with hives composed of roughly hewn boards. In spring, they lured bees from the forest, where they lived freely and swarmed uncontrollably. They kept them until autumn, then drove them out with smoke, harvested the honey, and melted the wax for candlesticks.

Today, after the harsh weather conditions of this waterless region where the "bura" wind prevails dispersed the people, we strive to preserve their memories through modern beekeeping. We believe that nature still harbours treasures, revealing them to the diligent and persistent.
